The 47th Annual Meeting of the Pacific Area Standards Congress (PASC) was held in Tokyo from 19 to 21 May, bringing together standards officials from 19 member countries, representatives from international organisations (ISO, IEC, ITU-T) and industry leaders. The event served as a dynamic platform for collaboration on the future of international standards across the Asia-Pacific region.
The program featured plenary sessions, technical workshops, and networking events, all designed to foster knowledge exchange and promote alignment in standards development. This year’s meeting placed a strong emphasis on digital transformation, enhancing access to standards and supporting effective implementation. All of which are key priorities to ensure standards continue to meet evolving stakeholder needs.
A highlight of the event was the joint PASC-IEC Asia Pacific Cooperation Forum (APCF) workshops, which facilitated in-depth discussions and collaborative initiatives among members. The digital transformation theme included a focus on the newly launched Online Standards Development (OSD) platform, exploring its role in supporting the digitisation of international standards development processes.
The meeting was a resounding success, thanks in large part to the warm hospitality and excellent organisation by Japan. Looking ahead, the 48th Annual Meeting will be hosted by Singapore.
