Many thanks for your kind e-mail.
Regarding the 28 February Conference, it is taking place as a half-day event (9:00 to 1:30 pm). Due to the SOM I activities, the high level officials that we would like to target are hard to get for a full day.
The conference will take place at the INDECOPI facilities.
The proposed title is: Standards in APEC economies.
Regarding interest, so far Canada and Korea have confirmed their participation. It would be great if Japan would also participate. The idea is to have 6 to 8 PASC SC participants as speakers.
I kindly request your full support to INDECOPI in the organization of this conference, which is considered critical to raise awareness among high level officials and business leaders about the importance of standardization. Therefore, could you please send a reminder to the PASC members, mentioning the new details that I am providing to you, and kindly asking to please participate?

Dear PASC members, Now INDECOPI plans to organize a one-day conference
on
28 February with participants from the PASC SC meeting. The subject of
the conference would be to present the work that the standards
organizations are doing in the APEC economies and also the role of PASC.
Desirable would be that the speakers make presentations of their
standardization systems (organization, roles and numbers) and main
accomplishments and contributions to the economies where they operate,
particularly with regards to trade facilitation and social
responsibility. The targeted public would be high public officers and
industry leaders, in particular the Peruvian ABAC members. If you are
interested in the meeting or you can make a presentation, or if you

I have spoken to Fabio Tobon, CEO of ICONTEC, about a number of issues and ask for your comments / assistance on the following: -
1. Registration for PASC 30. So far around 11 people have registered for PASC 30. I have sent out a reminder to register via the PASC website and using individual emails and would appreciate your assistance in encouraging people to register for the meeting. Registration closes on 1 March but anytime earlier would be great!
2. Fabio would like a networking event on the Friday afternoon ( a boat trip with lunch). This means the PASC SC meeting will need to be on Saturday morning as we discussed in Canberra.
3. PASC 30 agenda. This is posted to the PASC SC website as document PASC SC N316a. It would be appreciated if you would provide me with your comments on this document by Friday 16 February so I can finalise it and start selecting victims for the speaking slots
4. Sponsorship. There has been a good response to the call for sponsors for morning and afternoon coffee breaks, lunches and dinners. If you would like to sponsor, or co-sponsor something can you let ICONTEC and I know as soon as possible please.
5. PASC SC resolutions from our meeting in Canberra. These are posted in draft as document PASC SC N325. can you let me know by 17 February whether these are accurate.

Some of you may have seen the SOM I circular for APEC meetings taking place in Canberra, Australia in January 2007. The circular refers to an APEC SCSC PASC meeting on 26 January (Australia Day).
This is an error.
There is a PASC SC meeting on that day, in Canberra, as previously advised but there are no APEC SCSC events on that day.
Can you please advise your government representatives at APEC SCSC that they should not attend the PASC SC meeting on 26 January. This is a PASC SC meeting for us to discuss matters set down in the draft Agenda previously circulated as document PASC SC N313.

In my message PASC SC N307 I noted that SCC have kindly invited PASC SC members to a dinner following the meeting.
However I did not appreciate that this coincides with the ISO GA Opening evening celebration, nor that the schedule for the week is really getting very busy.
I would therefore like to thank SCC for their kind offer to host a dinner but advise that it has been decided that there will not be a PASC SC dinner.
We are still going ahead with the PASC SC meeting so I look forward to seeing you all again soon in Ottawa.

Dear PASC SC Members,
Gary, Michel and I have been reviewing the date for the next PASC SC meeting.
You will recall that this is scheduled to take place in Ottawa in September to coincide with the ISO General Assembly.
We have found that with the APEC SCSC meeting in Nah Trang scheduled for Friday - Saturday 8-9 September it is impossible for PASC SC members attending this meeting to make it to Ottawa in time for a PASC SC meeting on Sunday 10 September.
As a result it has been decided that the PASC SC meeting will now take place in Ottawa on Tuesday 12 September (following the DEVCO meeting) from 2:30pm - 5:30pm followed by dinner hosted by SCC.
Apologies for this change but this will mean more PASC SC members will be able to attend.

Dear Colleagues,
A few days ago I informed the 4 other SRBs:
A prime opportunity (albeit with a small window) to raise the awareness of senior government officials and business leaders of APEC arose at the February SCSC meeting from the tabling of the David Lazenby report. It is timely as SCSC is looking this year to strengthen the relationship with ABAC and to work with the SRBs.
PASC at its meeting May 4 decided to prepare a paper for presentation to SCSC at their September meeting (delivery due date is end of June). The paper will describe resourcing and supporting standardization in the APEC region. It is preferred that it be perceived as a joint paper of the 5 SRBs, and for that reason we request your participation in its development. At this time we see it as being a 10 page document giving the overview of the breadth and depth, and why, of standardization services now available in the region - with a 10 page annex consisting of a 2-page fact sheet for each SRB; a prototype is appended to give an idea of what it might look like and the information it could contain. The appended document is for a Canadian audience, and I expect we can readily convert it to a regional document and update it.
The text of another message sent today appears below. The draft is a result of collaboration amongst the TF appointed at the PASC SC meeting May 5 at Spiers with assistance from colleagues here at SCC.
At this time I seek your feedback and contributions to improve the paper, keeping in mind we wish to keep the text to 10 pages, supported by 5 SRB factsheets.
Please send your comments to me by May 26. They will be reviewed for incorporation into a 2nd (final) draft for circulation on June 15 for PASC SC approval. I realize these are seemingly impossible deadlines; but I think the potential outcome merits our attention now.

While the dates have apparently not been completely confirmed it appears
that the APEC SCSC 1 will take place as follows
SCSC I meeting (from 20 - 24 February in Ha Noi, Viet Nam):
Morning of 20 February 2006: SCSC/TFTF meeting
Afternoon of 20 February 2006: a seminar on product related environmental
regulations
21 February 2005: Food Safety Seminar
Morning of 22 February 2006 : JAC EEMRA meeting
23 February 2006: 1st day of SCSC meeting
24 February 2006: 2nd day of SCSC meeting
I therefore suggest that PASC SC meet in Ha Noi, Vietnam on Saturday- Sunday
25-26 February to continue our work and especially to discuss the outcomes
of the recommendation to APEC SCSC on closer cooperation with the other
SRB's and the agenda for PASC XXIX in South Africa.
A draft agenda is attached for review and comment.
I would appreciate it if you would confirm that you will be able to attend

Dear PASC SC members,
You will recall that we discussed the more active participation of PASC within the APEC Standards and Conformance Sub-committee (SCSC) at our meeting in Singapore.
John Henry of Standards Australia presented a paper from PASC on areas where better coordination of work by SRB's in the area of capacity building and development of standards and conformance generally might be achieved in the APEC region at the APEC SCSC meeting in Korea.
As a result the SCSC asked the Lead Shepherd (Indonesia) to further develop the proposal for more detailed consideration at the next APEC SCSC meeting in Vietnam (due to be held in Hanoi in February 2006).
Please note that we intend holding a PASC SC meeting in the wings of the February 2006 APEC SCSC meeting.
The attached is a draft and I would appreciate your further comments and advice on this paper by 23 December so it can be submitted to Indonesia for consideration by the other SRB's.

Dear PASC SC members
With just over 3 weeks to go before the PASC SC meeting in Singapore I have pleasure in attaching an update of the PASC Action Plan.
The Plan has taken all completed actions and placed them in a separate section at the back of the document and included existing and new actions from PASC XXVIII and our SC meeting in Nagoya.
I would be most grateful if you would please: -
1. Review the Action Plan, in particular for actions for which you have responsibility and provide an update on progress for me to post to the PASC SC website. Please send this to me no later than 09 September 2005
2. Consider any further actions that PASC should take
3. Be ready to discuss matters contained in the PASC SC Agenda (see PASC SC Website and document PASC_SC_N269)
A reminder that the PASC SC meeting is on Sunday 18 September 2005 from 1500 - 1800 hours and that Teo Nam Kuan of SPRING has kindly booked the "VIP B" room in the Raffles City Convention Centre for us. Please be in the lobby of the hotel by 1445 hours so we can be guided to this room.
Please also note that SPRING have very kindly invited PASC SC members to dinner that evening - (see PASC SC document PASC_SC_N279).
If you have any questions please let me know and I look forward to seeing you all in Singapore for a productive meeting and opportunity to progress PASC family objectives.
