PASC XXVIII - Final Resolutions
Download Document |
|
Abstract:
Dear PASC members
Item 1.
The final resolutions of PASC XXVIII are attached for your information.
Please note that I have highlighted those actions for the PASC SC in blue and those for the PASC Secretary in red. This means that you should review the remaining actions as they relate to all PASC members.
The PASC SC met on June 20, following the PASC XXVIII meeting and have allocated tasks amongst the members of PASC SC. That meeting agreed to follow up on progress at a meeting to be held in conjunction with the ISO General Assembly in Singapore in September so we keep up the momentum.
As Resolution 245 of PASC XXVIII states thanks again to JISC, its staff, and the Chair of PASC XXVIII, Mr. Sadao Takeda and the facilitator of special session, Mr. Akira Aoki, for the kind hospitality, excellent venue, meeting arrangements and events organized for PASC XXVIII.
Kind regards
Rob Steele

As we get nearer to PASC XXVIII it is an opportune time to remind people that the dress code for PASC is smart-casual, this having been decided at PASC XXIII in 1999.
I look forward to seeing everyone again soon in Nagoya and, as this is my first visit to Japan, for me at least to see new things and meet new people as well!

Dear PASC Members
Re: PASC Website Updated / Additional Functionality
You may have recently noticed that we have updated the information contained on the PASC website to hopefully, make it more relevant and current. We have also added some new functionality, details are as follows.
You now have the ability to update your country details (name of your standards body, your standards body abbreviation, your website address and your password). You can also update the individual members associated with your country (each country can have up to 3 individuals receiving PASC notifications, and you can update each individual contact's name, title, email address, fax number and telephone number). Please note that the information you provide (for your country and for your primary contact) will be automatically pulled through to the PASC and PASC SC (if applicable) membership pages so it might pay to consider this in advance of updating your details.
PASC membership roster http://www.pascnet.org/public/roster.asp
PASC SC membership roster http://www.pascnet.org/public/charter_a3.asp#member.asp)
Uploaded to the website are a series of screen shots showing you exactly how to go about updating your country and individual member details. If you experience any difficulties please don't hesitate to contact us.
Any comments or suggestions about the website would be much appreciated. Please email these directly to the PASC Secretary rob.steele@standards.co.nz.

Abstract:
Dear PASC Members
Re: PASC XXVIII Final Agenda and Call for Papers
As you are aware, the deadline for commenting on the draft PASC XXVIII agenda was Friday 22nd April 2005.
We have received a number of offers, thank you, and these are included in the attached agenda. For a number of the topics, where there have been no offers to speak we have "volunteered" other PASC member countries and hope that you will be able to accept the challenge.
1) We ask that you confirm that you are able to prepare a paper on these topics (if allocated) for PASC XXVIII
2) We would also like to take this opportunity to call for papers from those countries listed in the posted agenda.
As PASC XXVIII will be a paperless meeting, we would appreciate your cooperation in sending Standards New Zealand any papers you intend to present no later than 03 June 2005

PASC XXVIII Draft Agenda
Download Document |
|
Abstract:
Dear PASC members,
On behalf of our hosts for PASC XXVIII, JISC, I have pleasure in posting a draft of the agenda for our meeting in Nagoya in June 2005.
It would be appreciated if you would no later than 22 April 2005: -
1. make any comments as to the content of the agenda
2. advise whether you would like to speak to any of the agenda items
3. make any other comments with respect to the agenda
Our hosts have taken into account previous feedback that the duration of the PASC meeting be reduced and this has resulted in a focused agenda with the opportunity for networking during the meeting and at the technical visit following the formal sessions.
I hope that everyone is able to take advantage of the opportunity to discuss the topical issues proposed in the Agenda in the formal meeting and the Technical Visit to EXPO-2005 that is taking place in Nagoya.
Further information on registration and accommodation will be posted to the PASC website shortly.
Kind regards,
Rob Steele

Meritorious Award Proposal (Criteria)
Download Document |
|
Abstract:
Dear PASC Members
RE: Meritorious Award Proposal
Please find posted documentation on a proposed PASC Meritorious Award criteria and suggestion for an inaugural recipient. This initiative picks up on informal comments made at PASC XXVII in Vancouver and further discussion at subsequent PASC SC meetings.
At the PASC SC meeting in Geneva in September 2004 it was agreed that a PASC award should be made. The award could be to individuals or PASC member countries (including the host). The award does not have to be made each year if award criteria are not met. The PASC SC established a small group to
a. develop eligibility and award criteria
b. propose a suitable award or gift to be presented to the award winner or winners
c. call for nominations from PASC members for an award to be made at PASC XXVIII in Nagoya in June 2005
The attached paper has been developed by the PASC Secretary with comments from the PASC SC Chair and covers the above. Given the criteria, it further suggests that Professor Masami Tanaka should be the first recipient of this award for the reasons outlined in the paper.
As PASC Secretary I would appreciate comments on the following by 8 April 2005:
1) The idea of having an Inaugural PASC Meritorious Award
2) Anything you would like to see added to the proposed criteria
3) If you agree that we should have an award, that the first recipient of the award be Professor Masami Tanaka
Unless I receive strong objection to the award, it's content or the proposed first recipient I will formally recommend the above to PASC XXVIII at the June 2005 meeting in Nagoya.
Please provide comment no later than 08 April 2005 to me at (rob.steele@standards.co.nz).
PASC Secretary
