Title: PASC's support for APEC/SCSC survey
Download Document
Abstract: Dear PASC members. Some members were not able to receive the notification email. So I uploaded this document again. During the APEC/SCSC I meeting in February 2008, PASC offered its support for a SCSCfs activity to conduct a survey on participation of business/industry in the national and international technical committees (TCs) and Sub-committees (SCs) for standardization. Procedures as well as formats for the survey were discussed and finalized accordingly by the PASC Executive Committee (former SC) as attached. Cooperative interaction with business/industry in both national and international standardization activities has been considered as one of the priorities of the SCSC as well as the PASC as you recall; and results of the survey will be shared and utilised to further facilitate such interaction and cooperation between standardization bodies and business/industry sectors both in the SCSC and the PASC. All of the PASC members are therefore kindly requested to complete the attached questionnaire and submit it to the PASC Secretary at pasc@meti.go.jp by the end of May 2008. Please note that the questionnaire is separated into four excel sheets for ISO, IEC, JTC1 and NSB topics. Your kind cooperation on this matter will be highly appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact the PASC Secretary at pasc@meti.go.jp at any time. Juichi Nagano PASC Secretary

Title: [Re-send]PASC Meritorious Service Award to Mr. Rob Steele
Abstract: Since the e-mail address of the PASC Secretary was wrong, I would like to send the following message again. Dear PASC members, Happy New Year to you all! You will recall that when we learned that Mr. Rob Steele, PASC Secretary, had to resign from this position sooner than expected, PASC 30 unanimously voted to present the second PASC Meritorious Service Award to him on the spot at PASC 30 in Cartagena, Colombiain April 2007. However, as this action was taken with little notice, we were unable to present Rob with either a certificate and/or a gift to go with it at the time. I have been in communication with Rob since that time, and he sends his best greetings to you all. Many PASC members said that it would be wonderful if Rob were able to come to Shanghaifor PASC 31 to receive the Award personally, and it now appears that this is possible due to his work with UNIDO regarding energy management. Rob suggested that if it were possible, he would be most appreciative of a financial gift to offset the cost of his hotel room in Shanghai, which would make it more possible for him to attend. I have discussed this possibility with the PASC Secretary, Mr. Juichi Nagano, and we agree we should first ask you as PASC members whether you agree with this suggestion, though it is somewhat unusual. If you do agree (and this would not commit you to making a contribution), then we would send out an additional message requesting contributions, and how to make them towards Rob Steele's gift. Thank you for your consideration. Please inform the PASC Secretary at pasc@meti.go.jp as to whether you agree with this suggestion by 25 January 2008. Kind regards, Gary Kushnier PASC SC Chair

Title: Revised PASC Charter
Download Document
Abstract: Dear PASC members, I made some minor editorial changes with PASC Charter. These changes are highlighted in yellow in the attached draft document. The summary of minor changes is as follows: (1)We added the PASC logo to the upper left corner of page 1; (2)We added the page numbers to all pages; (3)We added an Annex 4 which lists the PASC Governance History; (4)We note that the document refers to the other specialist regional bodies, but does not ever explicitly identify PASC as an SRB.  This is perhaps clear to us, but should probably be spelled out.  We therefore added this clarifying language under objective 2 (page 2). Thank you and best regards, Juichi Nagano, Acting Secretary, PASC
